In 1996, the SOM Foundation established a prize to be awarded to students of architecture in the United Kingdom. The firm has had an office in London since 1986 and felt this award program, conducted in association with and administered by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), was an appropriate way to invest in the British educational community.
In 2007, the winners were Claudia White, Oxford Brookes University, and Rosy Head, Royal College of Art.
